Early Production Thonet B32 Cesca Chair Pair
A pair of early Thonet B32 dining chairs by Marcel Breuer. Featuring original caning and birch frames. The chairs are labeled "GFM" and stamped "Made in Poland," the identifying marks of the earliest models produced by Thonet.
Known today as the Cesca Chair, and named after Marcel's daughter, this design is considered one of the most important designs of the 20th Century. The first chairs, designed by Breuer in 1927 and produced in Poland by Thonet from 1928 until World War II. The chair was later manufactured in large numbers by Gavina, Knoll, and many more.
These are in very good condition. Caning is excellent, sans one tiny intersection of fraying underneath on one chair that has been glued and isn't visible from top and does not affect function. Some wear to chrome tubular frames as previous owner had glued carpet to underside of back bottom piece that we've since removed. Some other slight areas of wear to chrome remain. Birch frames in excellent condition.
30.5” tall by 18” across and 20” deep.
